  • Occupation: one of 923 official U.S. government jobs.
  • Role: a job title in an employer's words.
  • Responsibility: one line an employer wrote about the work.

Employers ask for far more than benchmarks test.

Responsibilities from real postings reach 7,229 of the 18,797 tasks the U.S. government lists, in 684 of its 923 occupations, counting a task once 5 or more responsibilities match it. Mercor's benchmark map, which counts the tasks AI benchmarks test, finds 924 tasks in 208 occupations at a matching bar of 5 or more test prompts. The two counts measure different things: a test prompt checks whether AI can do a task, and a posting is an employer asking for that work to get done. With Phasis, your AI starts from that wider picture of the work employers actually ask for.

How we built it
  1. Read

We read 2.4 million postings from 43,886 employers, September to October 2026, and grouped them into 397,886 roles, the job titles as employers write them.

  2. Place

We placed 176,854 of those roles, holding 1,721,539 postings, on the government's official list of 923 occupations.

  3. Match

We matched each responsibility to the government's tasks for its occupation; a task with 5 or more matches counts as covered, 7,229 tasks in all.

In a check of 100 placements, about 3 in 4 were confirmed.
